Scottish Kennel Club (May) Championship Show 2024 Critique

I appreciated the good entry which contained some quality hounds. I thought that some would have benefitted from a little more grooming ' I realise they are rustic, fit for function hound but some were a little unkempt. Some good youngsters coming on and limit bitch had a lot of quality. Many thanks to my steward Joy Wilson, Les and Yvonne Cox.

PGD (6)

1 Heathcote & Finnett Antonius Vertragis The-Rift-Valley With Hyndsight curvy outline and lovely balance attracted me to this young dog. Excellent shoulder and upper arm, enough rib for this age and very good quarters. I liked his head and expression very much. Went with a springy scopey stride which could have been a little more co-ordinated in front ' but he is young and I predict he will have a good career ahead. RDCC.

2 Pounder Zeldini Link my apologies but I seem to have mislaid my notes on this exhibit.

3 Taylor Ormanstar Ezra

LD (4) a little disappointing

1 Stuart & Holt Ollandsheart Oberon he had the best shape and profile action in this class but his topline could benefit from a little more length and curve to his croup and quarters. Good skull, fine ears. I would prefer more width and strength to underjaw.

2 Thom Flaxside A Will To Live 5-year-old, a smaller dog with a very good head and expression. Excellent coat. Need more chest and a little more length. His topline is a touch severe

. 3 Barret Stranwith Lago

OD (4,1)

1 Taylor Ch Ormanstar Dark Shadow 3-year-old who stood out here and I was surprised when I filled in the challenge certificate to see that he was the dog who won the reserve CC from the Junior class last time I judged the breed. He has matured very well and looked a real hunting hound, rustic shapely and with a great coat on him. He is very shapely and goes with a light springy stride, if a little exuberant with his front actin. Great type and quality ' very happy to see him looking so well DCC

2 Gillie Dorrator Orbit 6-year-old dog which I liked for his leg length and balance. He is a touch narrow in body and movement.

3 Heathcote & Finnett Ch Hyndsight Talk On The Street

PB (5) a lovely class full of promise.

1 Stuart & Holt Ollandsheart Matilda 10-month-old ' leggy and curvy with excellent carriage on the move. Just enough bone. Quality all through. Can firm up in feet and pasterns but she is full of promise. Best Puppy

2 Morgan Greyflax Bracken another quality puppy of 10-month-old. A shade more substantial than the winner. Excellent rear. Just a touch flatter in topline than the winner at the moment but she pressed the winner hard very houndy.

3 Swanson Altimarlach Balnabruich

JB (2,1)

1 Stuart & Holt Cora Sundrop At Ollandsheart 15 months bitch with elegance from her leg length and a smooth, curvaceous outline. Lovely head and eye. Ears a touch heavy. Can settle in front action.

PGB (6,2)

1 Heathcote & Finnett Antonius Vertragis The-Mara-River With Hyndsight 18-month-old and I see she is litter sister to the RDCC winner. She shares many of the same qualities in her construction at both ends. Correct bone and feet. Scopey on the move. Pressed hard in the Challenge and won RBCC

2 Swanson Zeldini Oren Of Altimarlach 18 month old, slightly lighter in type but very shapely with lightness of foot and scope on the move. Beautiful head and eye. Not quite the curve of croup and quarters of the winner but I liked her a lot.

3 Clabby Humbiehounds Jazz It Up

LB (10,1)

The class was a pleasure to see and was deep in quality. The top two took my eye from the first circuit of the ring ' but they were pressed by other good hounds.

1 Peach Kilbourne Flora Mcdeva 3-year-old houndy and curvy and holds her shape on the move. Excellent confirmation with good chest, bone and feet. In excellent coat and shown in lovely condition. Good stride, looked a fit for function hunting hound. Good head, eye could be a shade darker but so much type ' BCC, her first and BOB.

2 Spence Caraidanam Bruach Na Frithe Atbrylach 3-year-old of high quality, with superb coat and beautiful head and eye. I liked her balance and her lightness of foot and accuracy on the move. I just preferred the scope of the winner but she pleased me enormously

3 Thom Flaxside Against All Odds

OB (3)

1 Lucas & Dargonne Packway Smackfarthing 5-year-old, shapely and full of quality scoring in chest and body here. Just a touch narrow in her rear movement. In good coat. Feminine and elegant.

2 Heathcote & Finnett Ch Hyndsight All I Have To Do Is 3-year-old bitch with curvy lines and scoring in her croup. Springy stride. Good coat texture. I felt that she would benefit from a little more body on the day.

3 Harvey, Mrs Zabrina Kilboure Aoife

VB (1

) 1 Doak Con Centric Of Rosslyn 7 year old with beautiful head and expression, and a very good coat. She retains her shapely lines. Her front action could be a little cleaner.

SBB (1)

1 Mckie Anyanka Chase Of Lycanfold 2 year old a teenager in her body, and can finish in chest and rib. Shows some curve in her topline. Clean front action a little close in the rear.

GCB (1) 1 Mckie Anyanka Chase Of Lycanfold repeat.
