I'd like to thank Lichfield Canine Society for inviting me to judge this breed which is very close to my heart. Also thank you to my stewards and the exhibitors that made my day enjoyable.
Puppy – (2,0)
1st Peach - QUANTASTICO LUCIA TO KILBOURNE
At nearly a year old this is a lovely feminine puppy, with a pretty head and neat ears leading to a strong neck and good shoulder placement. Harsh coat covering the topline with correct rise over the loin to the croup and tail set allowing the tail to be carried right. She stood on nice tight feet with correct front and rear angles allowing her to move effortlessly round the ring. I'm sure one for the future. I watched her again in the hound puppy group and was pleased to see her go group 3. Well done.
2nd Pounder - ZELDINI LINK
Such a shame for this young boy who came up against the first. At only 8 months this lighter coloured male is still very immature. He has a beautiful soft expression with dark eye and tight ears. Nice straight front and good feet. He obviously loves his handler as he didn't take his eyes off him. He moved nicely round the ring with power from the rear, wagging his tail all the time. His coat is still a little soft but that should come with maturity.
Junior – (3,1)
1st Cummings - CLAONAIGLEN ARTNEY
A 13 month old young male, again still along way to go to maturity. Of larger build with a light grey crisp coat. Very masculine head with dark eye and tight ears. Good length of neck leading to good shoulder placement. I found him a little upright in front at the moment but should come down as he grows. I feel this type of hound takes longer to mature but it is all there so he should be fine. He moved well round the ring but would have benefitted from a large outside ring. RBOB
2nd Peach - KILBOURNE OSCAR WILDE
Another youngster just starting to come into his own at just 14 month old he looked a little more mature than the first. Nice masculine head with correct ears. Good reach of neck leading to correct withers covered in a good crisp coat. Again a little upright in front at the moment and a bit flat on his feet. He dropped his topline a little on the move but he is at that funny age when things change weekly and again would benefit from being outside.

1st Peach - KILBOURNE FLORA MCDEVA
Coming up 2 years old I have watched this lady from the side of the ring and I am pleased to say " what you see is what you get". She has a feminine head with dark eye and neat ears. A dark crisp coat which is good to feel. She has correct front and rear angles standing on tight feet. A good topline. A deerhound lady / mentor once told me it should be " a continuation of curves " and she is from head to tail. Beautiful to go over. BOB. Again I had the pleasure to watch her take hound group 4. I was delighted, as was her breeders. Well done.
2nd Pounder - PACKWAY NEW YORK NEW YORK
A 2 year old bitch , again unfortunate to come up against the first. Of smaller type and lighter in color but still has a good crisp coat. I would have liked to see a bit more substance all over and a little more spring of rib. She is put together right, with correct angles, keeping her topline on the move. She stands on nice tight feet. She seemed to lack enthusiasm, just not her day. Presented beautifully.

1st Wilce–Quinton & Quinton -KIRJOJAX HARRIS
A 2 year old male who didn't seem on top form today. Good masculine head with dark eye and neat ears. Strong neck leading into his good withers and good topline. Nice deep chest leading to correct tuck up. I have judged this dog before and he seems to have gone a little upright in front and found him lacking in forechest. I learnt afterwards his sister is in season at home and he has just become a dad so his hormones will be all over the place, which will have affected him on the day. He moved with drive although a little loose in front. Hormones!! It is a nightmare I know!! Turned out well.
