Thank you to the Windsor committee for inviting me and making me so welcome, my fabulous stewards and to the exhibitors for their time, effort, and expense in bringing their wonderful hounds to be critiqued. As always, I enjoyed myself immensely. I was sorry to lose some of my entry due to kennel cough, I wish all those dogs a speedy recovery.
In general, I thought hind ends and movement were good, much better than when I last judged which was so very positive. I was surprised to find some heads short in the skull and under jaw weak, a Deerhound by the very nature of its job should have a strong jaw. I am still concerned about our eye shape. Round eyes have been creeping in and I would say there are more now. It totally changes a Deerhounds expression and therefore our breed’s head. I think we need to be incredibly careful about this in the coming years.

1st Claonaiglen Camgaridth At Julam
Two 6 month old puppies both at either end of the scale. 1, a light grey in puppy coat. Super temperament. Tall soundly constructed fellow with a soft kind expression and perfect ears. Very strong well arched neck, plenty of return of upper arm with a good spring of pastern leading to very good feet. Just enough rise over his loin leading to a wide and strong rear. Moved very well and I was very happy to award him BP.
2nd Fritzens Zareef
At 6 months to the day, this shapely fellow demonstrated a rock steady temperament and showed like a professional. Very dark and shapely with a correctly shaped eye and super, well folded ears. Well arched neck, good front and held his top line well on the move. Good width of thigh but I would have preferred a little less hind angulation. Moved with good ground cover and purpose.
Junior Dog (1/0)
1st Hyndsight Talk On The Street
Dark strong male in good harsh coat. Correct eye shape. I would have preferred a more level skull. Very strong to go over, very strong neck, would prefer more shoulder angulation and return of upper arm to match his well angulated rear. Elbow a little close but beautifully ribbed back and deep chest. Good tuck up leading to wide hindquarters. Would prefer a little more rise over the loin. Moved out well with plenty of purpose.
Post Graduate Dog (5/3)
1st Kirojax Harris
Very masculine typey male. Harsh coat. Dark eye, very strong under jaw with a head of good proportion although would prefer less defined brows. Neck well arched, would prefer a touch more angulation of shoulder coupled with more return of upper arm. Deep enough for his age, well ribbed back very good top line and rise over loin which he held well on the move. Good feet. Plenty of droop to his hindquarters, correct width of second thigh and feels a powerful dog. Very strong tail, which we seem to see less of these days. Moved very well. I was pleased to award him the RCC
2nd Packway Herons Ghyll
A lovely type of Deerhound whose outline I liked very much I would have preferred him to have a little more length of neck. Muzzle a little short and would have preferred a stronger under jaw. Ears perfectly folded. Really super front, well angulated. Well ribbed back, wide through the hips and plenty of muscle on his broad thighs. Moved well.
Limit Dog (1/0)
1 Ormanster Dark Shadow
Strong upstanding male. Plenty of presence and stood well over the ground. Sweetest expression with a dark eye. Would have preferred a more typey head with a less rounded skull. Super ears, strong neck width but would have preferred a little less under neck and more arch instead. Good front, although would prefer a little more pastern slope, super feet. Rise over loin stating a tad early but pleasing width across the loin and strong. Plenty of width and droop to croup and plenty of strength to thighs. Moved very soundly, easy active and true.
Open Dog (3/2)
1st Ch Hyndsight Endlessflight
Masculine powerful lad to go over, it would be very easy to imagine him doing his job. Hazel eye, super aquiline nose, strong jaw, ear could be a little smaller. Skull to muzzle could be more level. Incredibly strong and very well arched neck, perfect for holding a stag. A little wide in front, feet could be tighter. Strong back leading to powerful hindquarters. Great width and droop at croup. Moved very soundly behind and propelled himself with power, joy and lightness of foot winning him the DCC & BOB
2nd Kensteen Laird Of Islay At Ballygrand
Another upstanding undeniable male, male. I liked his head on side profile, but a rather round eye detracted from his head and expression. Head a little short. Forequarters a little far forward thus shortening his neck. Held his very good top line well on the move. Well ribbed back, lovely shape and width to his hindquarters, would prefer him with the hocks a touch lower. Super, harsh coat. I would have preferred him with more weight. Moved well but not with the reach of 1.
Puppy Bitch ( 2/2)
Junior Bitch (4/1)
1 Hyndsight Only In My Dreams
A shapely attractive young bitch, not having the best of days with the tannoys today. Well shaped head, would have preferred a slightly darker eye and stronger under jaw. High held well folded ears, very strong nape and good width and power to her neck which I wouldn’t want any longer. Would prefer more return of upper arm, curvaceous top line, well ribbed backed to another good hindquarter of which there have been plenty today. Moved very well when settled.
2nd Ehlaradawn Lore
Dark, harsh coated bitch, very high held ears, head could be broader. Lacking a little in chest infill at the moment and would prefer a better return of upper arm. Strong loin, plenty of width of hip, wide strong thighs. Preferred movement of 1.
Post Graduate Bitch(9/4)
1st Kilbourne Saffron At Ehlaradawn
Beautifully shaped bitch with a strong muzzle and lower jaw. Strong neck, super front and spring of pastern, best front of the day. Broad chest and well ribbed back. I would have preferred better tuck, essential for galloping but hidden today I think by carrying excess weight. I would have liked a little more from hip to point of buttock. In fit condition she would have most certainly have been a CC contender. Super sound moving. Flagging in the challenge.
2nd Kirojax Pancho
Shapely bitch ,attractive bitch needs some time to fill out now. Harsh coated. Lovely head in side profile, front on dark eye unfortunately a little round. Would have preferred her less upright in front and brisket a little deeper. Super topline. Hocks could be a little lower.
Limit Bitch (5/1)
Shagied Stormy Seas ( A.I)
Curvaceous, well proportioned bitch. I would have preferred her head in general to be a little broader in muzzle and flatter in skull. Ear could be smaller. Dark, correct moderately full eye, feminine look about her. Good front, correct tuck up and broad thighs, I enjoyed feeling of power going over her, a strongly made girl, one who I feel could easily do the job she was bred for. Good coat, could be in harder condition, moved easy, active and true I was pleased to award her the CC.
2nd Packway Smackfarthing
A lovely bitch needing some filling out time now but lots to like about her. Very pretty correct head and overall body showing a lovey shape and type. Plenty of substance and strength without being remotely coarse, good feet. Strong thighs, well bent at stifle and shown in fit condition. Moved out well.
Open Bitch (5/3)
1st Kilbourne Louisa Chick
A lovely bitch, well balanced and strong and pleasing to watch. Nicely proportioned head although I would prefer it without the suggestion of a small stop. Great arch to her strong neck leading to a very correct shoulder with good return of upper arm. Good arch over loins which she held very well on the move. Would prefer her a little more depth to chest. Wide hips, powerful second thigh. Moved well. Flagging a little in the challenge. Very pleased to award her the RCC.
2Nd CH Hyndsight Mandolin Wind
A beautiful bitch with a lovely head and expression. I remember her as a young bitch and I admired her very much from the ringside. Structurally very sound fore and aft, a wonderful front, deep chested and well ribbed back, would have preferred a shorter stronger coupling and would have preferred generally more muscle tone and more about her today. Moved very soundly with purpose.
