Firstly I would like to apologise to the Club and Exhibitors for my late submission due to unforeseen illness in the family the day after the show. I would also like to extend my thanks to the HCEA committee for inviting me to judge, the stewards for their invaluable assistance and last, but not least, the exhibitors for presenting their lovely hounds.

PG (2.1) 1. Shannon's Packway Downlander at Erewhon (d) 1yr 8m
A lovely masculine head, no coarseness. Correct bite, fold of ears and soft, dark but also keen eye. Strong neck with reach to fair shoulder assembly and broad flat bone to pasterns, well knuckled feet. Good depth of brisket, spring of rib and good underline and tuck up with fair top line. Coat harsh, could show a little more rise over loins but pleasing fallaway and tail set to muscled thighs and low hocks. Movement lacking a bit of drive but ground rather uneven. Fair steps coming and going and in profile but could be wider behind. Stood naturally without handler intervention. Much to like for the future for this youngster.
O (4.1) 1. Nichols and Baker, Miss D F and Mrs P M . Kensteen Laird of Islay at Bally grand TAF (d) 4yr 9m
A mature hound with much to like about him, showing overall strength and balance. A good correct head without coarseness leading to a strong neck with good reach onto a well angled front assembly, depth of brisket with broad flat leg bone and pasterns, feet knuckled. Top line and under line have the right curves with good spring of rib and strength and breadth in the hind quarters. Pleasing first and second thighs to low hocks, moving with free, easy, rhythmic strides coming and going and in profile. Movement won on the day. BOB
2. Spence's Shagiead Stormy Seas AI (b) 4yr 7m
A very different type of hound to 1. So much to like about this very shapely bitch. 1st and 2nd pushing hard for the top slot. Very feminine and shapely head with dark eyes and folded ears, correct scissor bite, long reach of strong elegant neck leading to good front assembly and angulation with enough broad flat bone to good pasterns and feet. Body curves in all the right places, good spring of rib with broad hips and fallaway to pleasing tail set onto good hind quarters showing breadth of thighs. Movement a little stilted on this ground.
