To judge Deerhounds is something I always look forward to. I’m very fond of the breed, I like the atmosphere and to be around Deerhounds. Great sportsmanship among the exhibitors. To be invited to judge at Crufts is something special, I will remember this day forever. It was my first time judging at Crufts and I was excited, to be honest. The entry was very mixed, most dogs in good condition and in good harsh coat. Temperaments are always good; it is a breed that likes to please and to make everybody welcome. To look into the proper Deerhound expression is something that can make your heart melt. However, I was a little bit surprised to find too many dogs unhealthy down and back on the move. Rears has been a challenge for years, maybe I was expecting too much as for improvement. Because, there is still room for it! Another thing is lack of frontfill, and some width. A proper front is so essential for the balance of a dog. In addition, it gives a good support to the front legs, and elbows. Thank you for showing to me and making my day a very memorable one.

Excellent size for age, very much “in the making”. Attractive proportions. Masculine well shaped head, would like a bit less pronounced stop. Darkest of eyes. Pleasing length of neck, attractive top- and underline. Excellent depth of brisket. Would have liked to see more frontfill. Adequate angled rear. Needs to stabilize in front and rear on the move, good from the side. Excellent harsh coat. Lovely temperament.

Impressive, powerfull, well built, upstanding male with lots of quality. Excellent proportions and curves. Beautiful masculine head, gentle and sweet expression. Attractive topline, maximum depth of chest. Excellent angulation front and rear that he use so well on the move. Has excellent front and rear action keeping his curves really well. Moves very effortless. I think he could look even better with some less coat. Excellent temperament and dignity. Very pleased to award him the CC and BOB.

Kilbourne Merak
More elegant than first, has lots of body length. Topline tends to be a bit sloping. Good head, eyes could be darker. Decent length of neck. Excellent depth of brisket. Well angulated rear. Eyecatching on the move, but I think it is a little bit too much rear action. Excellent harsh coat.

Dino von Der Weidenvilla
Too short coupled, gives an too upstanding impression. Far too thin making him very narrow all over. A lot of attention must be given to the dogs’ lack of weight.
