Firstly thanks to The Hound Association for inviting me to judge a super show, and to two very efficient and helpful stewards and of course, to all the exhibitors for giving me such a lovely entry to go over. Overall the quality is good but I was disappointed to look into so many light eyes. It completely alters the typical deerhound expression. I was also surprised at the number of poor feet, which should not be the case in a running dog, and to find some dogs lacking in muscle tone.
PD (13) 1 Rhodes Gentom Peacemaker. Tall, well built, strong and shapely youngster with good length. Typical head with good ears. Good shoulder and return of upper arm showing great reach on the move. Well sprung rib, good topline and well bent stifle. Needs time but promising (BP). 2 Bucks Tomegem Dumbledore. Shapely and well boned youngster. Dark pigmentation. Good topline and deep brisket. Nice width to thigh and well bent stifle. Needs to settle on the move. 3 Carr’s Marandike Star Attraction.

YD (6) 1 Taylor’s Lyart Yes Minister. Shapely quality dog. Not tall, but well built and the soundest mover. Well muscled all through. Nice head with dark eye. Well balanced with a good front, good shoulder angulation and hind angulation, with lovely low hocks. Totally sound fore and aft. 2 Hall’s Canerikie Crocodile Cooler. Well boned quality young dog with nice head and darkish eye with good pigment. Good shoulder. Well sprung rib and good length of back into well angulated hindquarters. Rather lacking muscle but moved true. 3 Gow’s Laird of Lisnabanree At Anmialchu.

Good front and length of upper arm. Hindquarters strong but not quite the angulation of 1. Good feel and moved out well. 3 Coull’s Stainlonan Rikki of Regalflight.
PGD (12) 1 Peach’s Greyflax The Mighty Quinn to Kilbourne. Head and expression still looking young and slightly immature, but one very imposing young dog. Lovely balanced outline. Good head, would prefer a darker eye but wonderful ears. Good strong neck into well laid shoulder. Good topline well muscled loin and strong hindquarters. Moved out well. Pushed hard for Res CC but lost to maturity. 2 Edwards Kilbourne Vincent of Brackenland. Different type from 1. Again, eye could be darker. Good front. Good deep brisket and spring of rib. Well bodied. Good length and held topline on the move. Moved true. 3 Cannon & Wickstead’s Kilbourne Osbourne at Abayomi.
LD (13) This was a slightly disappointing class as some lovely dogs had really poor hind movement and rather too many flat or splayed front feet. 1 Mesdames Peach & Phillips' Wild West Von Der Oelmuhle. Quality dog, with compact and balanced overall outline. Dark eyes and good pigmentation giving typical expression. Neat ears. Good front, slightly shorter coupled but good topline. Strong hindquarters with good bend of stifle and used his hocks on the move. Well handled and moved well. 2 Owen & Brodie’s Wolfscastle Wood Melick. Different type from 1. Good head, with lovely neat high set ears. Dark eye and good pigmentation. Strong neck into should. Deep brisket and spring of rib. Moved out well and soundly covering the ground with ease. I was delighted to award him the dog ticket. 2 Helps’ Beardswood Marmion. (Res CC.) Different type but attractive tall quality, mature dog. He is eye catching with his overall bearing and finesse. Nice head but eye could be darker. Super ears. Good length of neck into good lay of shoulder. Deep brisket. Sp VD/B (4) 1 Churchill’s Lealla Huna. At 7 she is carrying her age effortlessly. Rather plain in the head but nice expression and good pigmentation. A good outline with good length of back and topline. Good strong and well muscled hindquarters and moved true. 2 Bailey’s Ch. Kilbourne Tiffanie To Greyflax. 8 year old beautiful grand dame of super quality and carrying her age well. Now in retirement she is unfortunately also carrying too much weight, which affected her movement and cost her first place. However, I think she enjoyed the day. 3 Seymour-Jackson’s Kilbourne Tystie to Ghiltan.
PB (10) 1 Owen & Brodie’s Marandike Ebony’s Choice to Wolfscastle. Eye-catching well boned youngster with lovely outline. Beautiful head and expression, so typical. Well made front, deep brisket and good length. Hopefully will drop a little on hind angulation but moved out well. A very promising young lady. 2 Girlings Pyefleet Rokesby. Another lovely outline, slightly different type. Again a good head and perfectly tight-rosed ears. Good layback of shoulder and return into a good length of back and rise over loin. LB (16) This really was a magical class and the best quality of the day. My only regret was that some really nice bitches went without cards. 1 Bailey’s Greyflax A Kind of Magic JW (CC & BOB). I admired her as a youngster (I remember giving her dam her first Res CC) and she is fulfilling that early promise. I was thrilled to see her make the cut in the group. So feminine and balanced with flowing lines, she is impossible to go past. Well boned and well constructed with good angulation fore and aft, she retains the elegance of a quality bitch. Feminine head with typical expression she flows into a good topline and fall away with strong well angulated hindquarters. A pleasure to watch on the move, with her effortless easy stride. 2 Redmond’s Hyndsight Mystical with Greybrows (Res CC). Another lovely type with classic head and dark eye. Quality all through, she has a strong neck, good lay of shoulder into correct topline. Deep brisket and spring of rib. She has strong powerful hindquarters with good angulation. Well muscled and sound, though just lacking the drive of 1. 3 Parsons & McKinnon’s Claonaiglen Orrin.

Deep brisket and lovely topline that falls away into well angulated and strong hindquarters with good width to thigh. Moved out well. 2 Hird’s Claonaiglen Albyn at Cloweswood.
