I’d like to thank the SKC for inviting me to judge this prestigious show and the exhibitors who gave me such a quality entry and my stewards who were so helpful.
PD. (4). 1. Carr’s, Marandike Star Attraction. Attractive 10 months old and very shapely. Nicely made youngster who moved well if a little close behind. Nice head and dark eye. Good leg length for height. Nice houndy looking dog. 2. McNeill's, Hearthstane Macallan. Just 6 months old. A lovely young dog enjoying his day. Good dark harsh coat. Excellent head and good eye giving typical expression. Very steady on the move and well behaved for one so young. 3. Wright’s, Hearthstane Glengarioch.
JD. (1). 1. Trotman and Dockree’s, Regalflight Princequillo of Penherald. Stood alone but worthy of his place. Very nice young dog, shapely with plenty of bone. Nice head and eye, soft expression and small neat ears. Well balanced with good angulation. Moved well holding his topline which was correct. Shapely lad.
YD. (3). 1. Taylor’s, Lyart Yes Minister. I loved this young 2 and a half year old boy. Not a big lad but so shapely and in wonderful well muscled condition which showed in his free sound movement. Good head, eye and lovely long strong neck. Correct shoulder placement and good return of upper arm to match his well angulated hindquarters. Hocks well let down. Good topline held on the move. A quality typical Deerhound that I considered for the RCC. 2. Cunningham’s, Killoeter Lamlash at Aonachdubh. Bigger than winner. Lovely curvy lines in profile. He has a good coat. Moves freely and is well balanced with good angulation. Correct topline, neat feet and nice head but I’d prefer smaller ears, although they were well placed and well folded. 3. Foy’s, Killoeter Laurel in Glenfoyble.
PGD. (4). 1. Cunningham’s, Dorrator Nathaniel at Aonachdubh. This dog moved so well. Plenty of reach and drive and covering plenty of ground. Lovely head, darkest of eyes and true breed expression, plus neat well placed ears and good feet. Nice topline, good angulation both ends which accounted for his movement. Well made and presents a balanced shapely picture. 2. Meer’s, Lealla Kinrossie of Lordswell. A year younger than winner and needs a bit more time for his topline to settle. A very good type (son of my RDCC and so like him). Best of heads and expression to melt any heart, all complemented with lovely face furnishings. He is a good size with an elegant outline and moves with nice fluid steady action. 3. Mulligan’s, Brylach Macgregor.
LD. (10). 1. Morton’s, Rosslyn Lebrel. Not big but masses of quality and of excellent breed type. He is an extremely well balanced houndy looking dog with correct leg length for his height. Well angulated fore and aft. Well let down hocks and lovely topline. Moved soundly and true. I liked him a lot. 2. Bond’s, Regalflight Sligo. Caught my eye. A lovely old fashioned Deerhoundy look about this fellow. Very curvy and strong looking with great depth and sweeping powerful hindquarters. Fair front. Movement very strong behind but lifting rather than extending in front. I can visualise this dog in past times doing what he was originally bred for. 3. Peach’s, Gentom Oliver Twist to Kilbourne.
OD. (5). 1. Peach’s, Greyflax the Mighty Quinn to Kilbourne. And mighty he is, mighty nice! When he entered the ring he owned it. Very eye catching tall well made dark dog in lovely condition. Of nice length with leg length to suit his height. Moves effortlessly with drive and reach covering a lot of ground and holding his topline. A joy to watch. Plenty of forechest, strong long neck. Good depth and well laid shoulders. I would prefer a more refined head but overall he has the elegance I love. 2. Meer’s, Kilbourne Comanche of Lordswell. I judged this dog when he was just 3 years old. I loved him then for his grace and elegance and that till stands. Now mature he has presence and looks like the aristocrat he is. Of excellent type and quality with good leg length for his height. He is a shapely gentleman and although I would prefer a tad more rise over the loin, this does not detract from the overall picture. Superb head with gentle eye and soft expression through which his wonderful temperament shines. He had to be good against strong competition for the RCC; to look right and to move right which he did. I was happy to give it to him, he deserved it. RCC. 3. Bond’s, Ch. Regalflight Stormbird.
PB. (6). 1. Owen and Brodie's, Marandike Ebony's Choice to Wolfscastle. A star of the future if I’m not mistaken. Have watched her from ringside before and was impressed. She doesn’t disappoint to go over. Has curves in all the right places and moves well with drive. Sound as a pound for one so young. Lovely head and expression. Well laid shoulders and well angulated hindquarters. Lovely in profile. 2. Wilson’s, Killoeter Morven. First time out. Just 8 months old. A lovely houndy curvaceous puppy. Well constructed with good head and good angulation. Very balanced. Nice breed type. I was surprised how settled she was. Likely due to correct temperament, eager to please. 3. McLuskie's, Hearthstone Brora.
JB. (6). 1. Jansons’, Nixophel Crystal Amethyst. Moves so well. Shapely eye catching young lady with a lovely head, correct shape dark eye and good expression. Tall and rangy with lovely long elegant neck and good leg length. Good shoulder and rear angulation. Lovely outline. 2. Bailey’s, Greyflax Milly Molly Mandy. Has quality and elegance. Very good breed type. Lovely head and expression, so typical of this kennel. Well laid shoulders and quarters to match. Nice length, good leg length. Very appealing. I liked her a lot but she lacked the movement of winner. 3. Hogan’s, Tillyhilt Little Eva to Breesfalt.
YB. (5). 1. Wilson’s, Killoeter Leyla. Classy. Strong looking youngster who is really well constructed and was in excellent condition. Good body length, nice height and leg length to match. Very sound mover in profile, coming and going. Balanced good angulation is of good breed type. 2. Cartmell's, Dream Dance for Cusidh. Caught my eye the minute she entered the ring. Truly lovely type. Very feminine. Good harsh dark coat. Lovely head, gentle eye. Has true breed expression. A quality hound who is very balanced and has no exaggerations. She did not give her handler an easy time which was a great pity. 3. Taylor’s, Lyart Yea Verily.
PGB. (6). 1. Trotman's, Fosses Ramblingrose of Penherald. Took my eye, my heart and the RCC. I fell for this 3 year old lady in a big way. Looks and holds herself like a super model. Moved with grace and strength and is very sound. Gorgeous head and lovely dark eye and expression that melts the heart. Beautifully made and balanced with lovely topline held moving. Stunning in profile. 2. McKinnon’s, Fingon Nanny Ogg. Unlucky to meet winner. Another very shapely sound bitch of the type I love. Houndy and very graceful mover. Feminine well constructed and balanced. Great top and underline, no exaggerations anywhere. My eye just flowed over her. Lovely dark coat. Super fine head and dark eye. 3. Wilson’s, Killoeter Lurag for Hamiltonhill.
LB. (8). 1. Bailey’s, Greyflax a Kind of Magic. Cast her spell over me some while ago. From ringside I have watched her progress form a rangy youngster into a mature quality bitch. This day it was a pleasure to go over her. A long free striding easy mover with lovely head carriage. Quite a big girl. Strong well developed and very well muscled but still feminine and elegant. Excellent overall conformation and balance and I love her head. Good front, well laid shoulders all finished with sweeping strong hindquarters. A class act. CC and BOB. 2. Doak's’, Rosslyn Mantra. Filled my eye. Very shapely strongly built and so lovely in profile. She has a well shaped head and correct eye but lacking face furnishings. Without the beard, brows and moustache she didn’t have the necessary soft expression that I love. However apart from this she is typical and classy. Lovely dark harsh coat. Fair angulation in front. Well angulated behind. Lovely top and underline. Moves soundly and steadily. 3. Hanson’s, Greyflax Lady of the Lake.
OB. (8). 1. Bailey’s, Greyflax Waterloo Sunset. Top notch show girl. Effortless free mover with drive and reach. Strongly built in excellent well muscled condition. A lady of substance but still feminine and graceful. Quality head and expression. Good front, well laid shoulders and sweeping hindquarters. Lovely outline. Another very good type from this kennel. 2. Cartmell’s, Riding the Wind with Cusidh. A smashing shapely bitch. Smaller than winner. Classic in type and shape and moves well. Angulation is good fore and aft. No exaggerations. She presents a very balanced picture from all aspects. Good head, dark eye. Nice dark coat. So much to like about her. 3. Janson’s, Greyflax Lady of the Lake to Nixophel.
