Paignton 2007 Critique

I should like to thank the exhibitors for their lovely entry. When judging a hound to me the main function of the dog is of paramount importance, and for this reason a hound bred to chase a deer up over steep rough ground, must have superb strength of quarters and be deep in brisket to give plenty of heart and lung room. I was looking for one of good construction and bone with powerful muscle that to me epitomised the true Deerhound who must have stamina and grace. A long easy stride with no ‘choppiness’ particularly in front movement.

Pd
(4,1) 1 Carr’s Marandike Star Attraction, and he was. A very promising youngster with a lovely head and good shoulders. Well let down for his age. Strong in hind quarters with a lovely long stride. Well ribbed. BP. 2 Seymour-Jackson’s Ghiltan Hero. A finer dog throughout. Another 10 month male narrower in front and not the shoulders of my winner. Not as mature as my winner. 3 Blake's Ahelova Stalker.

JD
1 Blake's Ahelova Stalker. Standing alone, 8 month old who needs to body up. Pleasing head would prefer a stronger under jaw. Moved quite well.

PGD
(3) 1 Gomm’s Packway Vinson of Wildtor. Well balanced dog of good type. Pleasing head. Good neck, feet and shoulders. Well let down. Well ribbed and correct tuck up. Moved extremely well, very sound in front. Res BD. 2 Blackford and Morrissey's Lord Seafield of Hartvalley. Upstanding masculine dog of good type. Good shoulders. Falls away a little behind not quite as balanced in outline as my winner. 3 Parson’s & McKinnon's Claonaiglen Orchy.

OD
(4,1) 1 Cheshire’s Neroche Hennessy of Deeranwith. Lovely 3 year old, stallion hound. Good head, ears and neck. Correct shoulders. Very well ribbed and well let down. Good strong well muscled hindquarters. Moved strongly. BD 2 Seymour-Jackson’s Ghiltan Harvest. Another nice headed male with strong quarters and well muscled hindquarters. Would have liked more neck. Moved well. 3 Bolton’s Wickwar Willowherb with Allenbank.

PB
(4,1) 1 Bye’s Jamalison Anthem. Sweet 7 month baby with a nice head and good neck and shoulders. Good width in forechest and strong in ribcage. Good tuck up and strong hindquarters which she used well on the move. 2 Seymour-Jackson’s Ghiltan Harvest. Another nice baby, not quite the shoulders of my winner. Lovely type. 3 Richardson’s Fernbarrow Flora. 6 month baby who needs time to develop, turning her feet a little at present.

JB 1 Janson's Nixophel Crystal Amethyst. What a lovely youngster of 13 months. Very good head with correct planes and good ears. Lovely neck. Good construction and used herself very well on the move. Lovely outline. Correct length of rib. Strong quarters. Well let down for age. Res BB should have a bright future.

(4) 1 Gomm’s Canerikie Cookie to Wildtor. 18 month old bitch of good balance and type. Nice head and neck. Good shoulders, good length of breast bone and well let down giving plenty of heart room. Moved very well with easy stride and excellent strong hindquarters which gave her this class. 2 Adams Hydfron Ula for Zandahar Sh CM. Another very nice bitch of good type. Very close decision. Good head and ears. Good front and shoulders and ribs go well back to correct tuck up. Could have a little more neck. Moved well if a little close behind. 3 Seymour-Jackson’s Ghiltan Tiercel.

OB (4,2) Two very nice examples of the breed. 1 Parsons & McKinnon's Claonaiglen Orrin. This lady really worked hard for her win. Lovely head and neck. Good strong forechest and ribbing goes well back. Correct shoulders and strong hindquarters. Really free on the move and a lovely balanced shape standing. I liked her type. BB and BOB and I understand she recently became a Champion. 2 Janson’s Greyflax Lady of the Lake to Nixophel. Another lovely type. Close up to winner. Same points apply. Just loved the easy going stride and outline of my winner.
