Driffield 2006 Critique

Temperaments were uniformly wonderful – I can’t remember when my face and ears have been so clean. The big ring and cool weather meant I was able to move the dogs as much as I wanted. Most of the dogs seemed to be having fun, so having time to allow them to settle was a bonus. My thanks to my very efficient stewards.

JD (1) 1 Peach’s Greyflax The Mighty Quinn to Kilbourne, well-grown strongly built but shapely lad, dark eye, strong neck, good length in body and from hip to hock. Moved very well for such a youngster.

PGD (4) 1 Pink’s Greyhawks Romanie Rom, nice type, athletic build, good feet and head, still quite immature and should be better still in another year. 2: Coull’s Stainlonan Rikki at Regalflight, similar type to 1. Good hindquarters, but could use a little more weight all over. Another who needs time to come to his best. Close call between 2 & 3 - 2 scored on masculinity. 3 Edwards’ Kilbourne Vincent of Brackenland

LD (4,1) 1 Spencer’s Gentom Orlando at Talgavar, lovely old fashioned type combining strength and elegance. Good head and expression, strong neck decent feet and strode round the ring. Looks as though he could do the job. Beat his sister by a whisker, BD and BOB. 2 G Romanie Rom, better shoulder and length of stride than 3 Wiggan’s Killoeter Grilse

OD (2) 1 Peach’s Kilbourne Macleod, very typical of this kennel’s stock and like all his kennelmates today very well bodied. Balanced hound of good length and moved soundly RBD 2 Wiggan’s Anmialchu Beinn Buachaille, old favourite, thoroughly enjoying himself and giving his handler a hard time. Nice workmanlike hound.

PB (2) 1 Edwards’ Readwald Amber of Brackenland, real baby of six months; a well-made solid pup with a beautiful head and expression. Complete sweetie trying very hard to please her handler, one for the future, BP. 2 Rhodes’ Cookland Dibbs, completely different type and at the all legs and wings stage of development. Lots of grey brindle coat and rather nice little ears. Would like to see her again when she’s settled into herself.

JB (3, 1) 1 Peach’s Kilbourne Oh Suzzanna, coming along nicely. Strong but very feminine bitch with a well-held ear and good coat. Movement has tightened considerably since I judged her earlier this year. Considered for higher honours, but still needs time to come to her best. 2 R Amber of B

YB (4,1) 1 Rhodes' Gentom Ovation, Deerhound elegance personified. Gorgeous bitch, classic head and expression; best ear in the entry, great depth and powerful hindquarters. Moved beautifully. Pipped to the post by her more mature brother, but a worthy BB. 2 Peach's Pendrethan Tamsyn to Kilbourne, very decent sort of a bitch. A size smaller than Ovation and not so mature. Liked her length from hip to hock. 3 Seymour-Jackson's Ghiltan Tiercel

LB (2,1) 1 Pink's Chapeltower Chalice by Greyhawks, mature girl dancing and having such fun winding her patient handler up. Classy bitch with a very decent rear end and similar type to Ovation, RBB
